40.1 Custom Domain Overview

The Custom domain tab allows an authorized workspace to save a branded domain or subdomain for supported PROS URL behavior. The interface describes this capability as using your own short URL domain instead of the default application URL.

40.2 Before You Begin

You should control the DNS for the domain or subdomain you intend to use. You will need access to the DNS provider so you can create the record shown by PROS.

40.3 Opening Custom Domain Settings

1. Open Settings.
2. Select Custom domain.
3. Review any currently saved domain and status.

40.4 Entering the Domain

Enter the domain or subdomain you want to use. The controller removes an entered http:// or https:// prefix, path, and port before saving the hostname.

The field accepts up to 255 characters and must resolve to a valid domain-style hostname.

Examples of hostname format

1. go.example.com
2. links.example.com
3. campaigns.example.com

Do not enter a full page path such as https://example.com/sales/page. The Custom Domain setting expects a hostname.

40.5 Saving the Domain

After validation, PROS saves the custom-domain configuration along with the DNS target. If the entered host is not already the application host, the status is stored as pending_dns.

40.6 Creating the DNS Record

The interface provides a DNS guide instructing you to create a CNAME record pointing the custom hostname to the target shown by PROS.

1. Sign in to the DNS provider that manages your domain.
2. Create or edit the CNAME record for the chosen subdomain.
3. Set the CNAME target to the exact target displayed in PROS.
4. Save the DNS change.

Important: DNS provider interfaces use different field names. Enter the host and target according to your provider while preserving the exact PROS target.

40.7 DNS Propagation

DNS changes may not be visible everywhere immediately. If the domain remains pending shortly after the DNS change, verify the record and allow time for DNS propagation before trying again.

40.8 Verification Status

The Custom Domain configuration stores a status and verification timestamp when the domain is considered verified by the current workflow. The Settings page can display the current status so you know whether the domain is ready.

40.9 Domain Validation Errors

If the hostname format is invalid, PROS returns Enter a valid domain or subdomain.

1. Remove spaces.
2. Do not include a path.
3. Do not include a port.
4. Use a complete hostname containing a dot.
5. Check for typing errors.

40.10 Using the Custom Domain

Once the domain is correctly configured and supported by the deployment, use the branded domain for the PROS URLs that the platform makes available through Custom Domain functionality.

40.11 Do Not Change DNS Blindly

Caution: Do not replace unrelated DNS records for your main website, email, or other services. Create the exact hostname record intended for PROS. If you are unsure which DNS record is safe to change, consult the person who manages your domain.

40.12 Troubleshooting a Pending Domain

1. Confirm the saved hostname is correct.
2. Confirm the CNAME host matches the intended subdomain.
3. Confirm the CNAME target exactly matches the target displayed by PROS.
4. Check that no conflicting record exists for the same hostname.
5. Allow for DNS propagation.
6. Return to Custom domain settings and verify again where the interface provides that action.
