15.1 Overview

Outbound clicks allows AIUNIFY Analytics to measure when visitors click links that take them away from the tracked Website.

The system describes this feature as:

“Track clicks to links going outside of your website domain.”

This can help you understand which external destinations receive the most visitor attention.

Examples include links to:

  1. Partner Websites
  2. Booking platforms
  3. Payment portals
  4. Social-media profiles
  5. Affiliate offers
  6. Vendor Websites
  7. External applications
  8. Documentation Websites
  9. Marketplace listings
  10. Other third-party destinations

The basic workflow is:

Visitor on Website → Clicks external link → Outbound Click recorded → External Domain counted → External Path available for review

15.2 What Is an Outbound Click?

An outbound click occurs when a visitor selects a tracked link that leads outside the Website being monitored.

For example, if your Website is:

example.com

and a visitor clicks:

partnercompany.com/services

AIUNIFY Analytics can record the click as an outbound interaction when Track outbound clicks is enabled.

The Website setting specifically describes the feature as tracking:

“user clicks on links that go outside of the website.”

15.3 Outbound Clicks vs. Internal Navigation

Outbound Clicks is intended for links leading away from the tracked Website.

For example:

Internal Link

example.com/pricing

remains on the tracked Website.

That is ordinary Website navigation.

External Link

bookingprovider.com/example

leaves the tracked Website.

That can be recorded as an:

Outbound click

when the feature is enabled.

15.4 Enabling Outbound Click Tracking

Outbound tracking is controlled from the Website configuration.

Navigate to:

Websites → Edit website

Locate:

Track outbound clicks

The interface describes the control as:

“Enable or disable tracking for user clicks on links that go outside of the website.”

Enable this setting when you want AIUNIFY Analytics to collect new outbound-link activity.

15.5 What Happens When Outbound Tracking Is Enabled

When the Website's Track outbound clicks setting is enabled, the Analytics Tracking Code loads the outbound-link tracking functionality.

This applies to both:

  1. Lightweight Tracking
  2. Advanced Tracking

The tracking component is only included when the Website's outbound-click setting is enabled.

Therefore:

Tracking Type determines how much visitor context is available.

But:

Track outbound clicks determines whether outbound-link collection is turned on.

15.6 What Happens When Outbound Tracking Is Disabled

If:

Track outbound clicks

is disabled, the outbound-link tracking component is not loaded as part of the Website's Analytics tracking behavior.

Existing historical outbound-click data is not the same thing as the setting itself.

Disabling the setting is intended to stop collection of new outbound-link activity; it does not mean the Website itself has been deleted or that all other Analytics tracking is disabled.

15.7 Outbound Clicks Is Available with Both Tracking Types

Outbound Click tracking works with:

  1. Advanced Tracking
  2. Lightweight Tracking

Both Tracking Types store:

  1. External Domain/Host
  2. External Path
  3. Link Title when available
  4. Date/Time

For Advanced Tracking, the outbound click can additionally be associated with:

  1. Visitor
  2. Session
  3. Website Event

Lightweight outbound clicks are recorded without those persistent Advanced Visitor relationships.

15.8 Opening Outbound Clicks

To review Outbound Clicks:

  1. Sign in to AIUNIFY Analytics.
  2. Confirm the correct Website is selected.
  3. Select Outbound clicks from the sidebar.
  4. The Outbound Clicks reporting screen opens.
  5. Select the desired Date Range.
  6. Review the click chart.
  7. Review the external Domains below.

The main navigation links directly to the Website's Outbound clicks report.

15.9 Understanding the Outbound Clicks Screen

The dedicated Outbound Clicks page contains two primary reporting areas:

  1. Outbound Clicks Chart
  2. Outbound Clicks by Domain

The page itself is labeled:

Outbound clicks

and includes the explanation that it tracks links leading outside the Website domain.

The lower report groups outbound activity by the external Domain that received the click.

15.10 Outbound Clicks Chart

At the top of the reporting area is a line chart.

The chart's dataset is labeled:

Clicks

It plots recorded Outbound Clicks over the selected reporting period.

This lets you see:

  1. When outbound clicks increased
  2. When they declined
  3. Whether a campaign caused a spike
  4. Whether a new external CTA is attracting attention
  5. Whether external engagement changed after a Website update

15.11 Example Outbound Click Trend

Suppose the chart shows:

Monday 10 clicks
Tuesday 14 clicks
Wednesday 12 clicks
Thursday 32 clicks
Friday 40 clicks

If an external booking campaign launched Thursday, the increase may warrant further analysis.

You could then examine which external Domain received those clicks.

15.12 Date Range

Outbound Clicks uses the standard AIUNIFY Analytics Date Range control.

The report uses the selected start and end dates when retrieving both:

  1. Outbound-click chart activity
  2. Domain totals

The underlying report only counts outbound-click records belonging to the selected Website and reporting period.

15.13 Using Date Ranges for Outbound Analysis

Common reporting periods include:

  1. Today
  2. Yesterday
  3. This Week
  4. Last 30 Days
  5. This Month
  6. Last Month
  7. This Year
  8. Last Year
  9. All Time
  10. Custom Date Range

Examples:

Campaign Analysis

Set the dates to the exact campaign period.

Monthly Client Report

Use:

Last Month

New CTA Test

Use the date range beginning when the CTA was added.

15.14 Domain

The main Outbound Clicks list is organized by:

Domain

The column label is explicitly:

Domain

For example:

calendly.com

stripe.com

linkedin.com

partnercompany.com

marketplace.example

Each Domain represents an external Website that received one or more recorded outbound clicks.

15.15 Clicks

Beside each Domain is its:

Clicks

count.

For example:

booking.example — 100

means the external Domain received 100 recorded outbound clicks within the current reporting conditions.

Domains are grouped by host and counted according to the number of matching outbound-click records.

15.16 Domains Are Ranked by Click Volume

AIUNIFY Analytics orders external Domains from the highest number of Outbound Clicks to the lowest.

Therefore, the first entries generally represent your most-clicked external destinations for the current report.

This makes it easy to identify:

Where visitors are leaving your Website to go most often.

15.17 Percentage of Total Outbound Clicks

Each Domain also displays a percentage.

The percentage is calculated as:

Clicks for this Domain ÷ Total Outbound Clicks represented in the list

AIUNIFY Analytics displays:

  1. Click count
  2. Percentage
  3. Progress bar

for each Domain.

15.18 Example Domain Distribution

Suppose your Website has:

100 total outbound clicks

distributed as:

  1. Booking Platform — 50
  2. Partner Website — 30
  3. LinkedIn — 20

The report could show approximately:

Booking Platform — 50%

Partner Website — 30%

LinkedIn — 20%

This helps you compare external-destination performance at a glance.

15.19 Opening an External Domain

Each Domain row contains an external-link icon.

Selecting it opens the external Domain in a new browser tab.

Use this when you need to confirm:

  1. What the destination Website is
  2. Whether the external URL is still correct
  3. What service or partner the Domain represents

15.20 Drilling Down into a Domain

The Domain Name itself is clickable.

Selecting it opens:

Outbound clicks paths

for that Domain.

This lets you move from:

Which external Domain received clicks?

to:

Which specific paths on that Domain received those clicks?

15.21 Outbound Clicks Paths

The drill-down window is titled:

Outbound clicks paths

Within this window, AIUNIFY Analytics groups the outbound activity by:

Path

for the selected external Domain.

For example:

Domain:

partnercompany.com

may contain:

  1. /services
  2. /pricing
  3. /signup
  4. /contact

15.22 Why Path-Level Analysis Matters

Domain-only reporting may not provide enough detail.

Suppose your Website contains three links to the same external provider:

booking.example/demo

booking.example/consultation

booking.example/support

At the Domain level, all three belong to:

booking.example

The Outbound clicks paths window lets you determine which specific destination received the clicks.

15.23 Path

The path report is explicitly labeled:

Path

Each row displays:

  1. External Path
  2. Click count
  3. Percentage
  4. External-link control

15.24 Opening the Exact External Destination

Each outbound Path includes an external-link icon.

Selecting it opens:

External Domain + External Path

in a new browser tab.

This allows you to verify exactly where visitors were being sent.

15.25 Path Click Count

Each Path has its own click count.

For example:

Domain: partner.example

Paths:

/services — 40

/pricing — 35

/contact — 10

The system groups records belonging to the selected Domain by Path and orders those Paths from the highest click count to the lowest.

15.26 Path Percentage

Each Path also receives a percentage and progress indicator.

The percentage represents the Path's share of the total clicks within the Path drill-down data.

This allows you to identify the most popular destination within an external Domain.

15.27 Understanding Domain vs. Path

Use this distinction:

Domain

booking.example

Path

/demo

Full destination:

booking.example/demo

Outbound Clicks first groups by:

Domain

Then clicking that Domain allows you to examine:

Paths

15.28 Example — Booking Platform

Suppose your business sends visitors to an external scheduling platform.

Your Website contains:

Book Sales Demo

booking.example/sales-demo

and:

Book Support Call

booking.example/support

The main Outbound Clicks report may show:

booking.example — 85 clicks

Open the Domain to see:

/sales-demo — 65

/support — 20

Now you can distinguish which booking destination generated the greater visitor response.

15.29 Example — Payment Provider

Suppose checkout occurs on an external payment service.

Your Website contains a button:

Proceed to Payment

that sends visitors to an external payment Domain.

Outbound Clicks can help you measure how many recorded visitors clicked away from your Website toward that provider.

However:

An outbound click is not the same thing as a completed payment.

It tells you the visitor clicked the external destination.

To measure a completed business outcome, use an appropriate Goal or downstream conversion system where available.

15.30 Outbound Click ≠ Conversion

This distinction is important.

Suppose:

100 visitors click “Apply Now”

and are sent to an external application system.

Outbound Clicks may show:

100 Clicks

That does not establish that 100 applications were successfully completed.

Outbound Clicks measures:

Click toward external destination

not necessarily:

Completion after leaving the Website

Use Goals or another applicable completion-tracking method when the completed outcome must be measured.

15.31 Outbound Clicks and Goals Can Work Together

An external click may also represent a business conversion when the action itself has strategic value.

For example:

Click Schedule Consultation

may be:

  1. An Outbound Click because the visitor leaves the Website
  2. A Custom Goal if your organization considers the click itself a conversion

As explained in Chapter 14, Goals should be reserved for actions you intentionally define as important business outcomes.

15.32 Outbound Clicks and Affiliate Links

Outbound Click reporting can be useful for Websites containing affiliate or referral links.

For example:

Your Website

→ Product Recommendation

→ External Marketplace

Analytics can help identify:

  1. Which marketplaces receive the most clicks
  2. Which external Domains perform best
  3. Which specific external Paths receive attention

However, outbound-click counts do not establish:

  1. Purchases
  2. Affiliate revenue
  3. Commission approval

unless those outcomes are measured separately.

15.33 Outbound Clicks and Partner Links

For partnership Websites, you might link visitors to several partners.

Example:

Partner A — 150 outbound clicks

Partner B — 90 outbound clicks

Partner C — 35 outbound clicks

This can help show which external partner destinations receive the most Website-generated engagement.

15.34 Outbound Clicks and Social Media

If your Website contains external social links, outbound tracking can measure clicks leading to those destinations.

Examples include links to:

  1. LinkedIn
  2. Facebook
  3. Instagram
  4. YouTube
  5. Other external social platforms

This tells you that visitors left the Website toward the social destination.

It does not tell you what they did after arriving there.

15.35 Outbound Clicks and External Forms

Some businesses use forms hosted by third-party systems.

Example:

Apply Now

→ external application portal

Outbound Clicks can measure the transition from your Website to that external platform.

If form completion itself is the business outcome, consider whether additional Goal or external-system reporting is also needed.

15.36 Advanced Tracking Outbound Clicks

For Advanced Tracking Websites, an Outbound Click record can be linked with:

  1. Visitor
  2. Session
  3. Event
  4. Website
  5. External Host
  6. External Path
  7. External Link Title
  8. Date/Time

This gives the Analytics system more Visitor context around the click.

15.37 Lightweight Tracking Outbound Clicks

For Lightweight Tracking, the Outbound Click record contains the Website-level external-link information without the same persistent Visitor/Session relationship.

The Lightweight process stores:

  1. Website
  2. Host
  3. Path
  4. Title
  5. Date/Time

This reflects the privacy-oriented design of Lightweight Tracking.

15.38 Filtering Outbound Clicks

The Outbound Clicks screen contains the standard:

Filter

control.

The dedicated Dashboard layout includes the filter button on the Outbound Clicks reporting page when Analytics data is available.

Active Filters can therefore narrow the main outbound-click reporting according to the fields supported by the Website's Tracking Type.

15.39 Advanced Tracking Filters

For Advanced Tracking, the outbound-click report can use Visitor-related filtering context because outbound-click data is connected to Visitor records.

The Advanced outbound query joins the outbound click with its Visitor information before applying Analytics Filters.

This can support analysis such as:

Country = US

Device = Mobile

Browser = Chrome

depending on the available filter options.

15.40 Lightweight Tracking Filters

For Lightweight Tracking, Outbound Click reporting uses the Lightweight Analytics filter set when calculating the main outbound reports and chart.

The exact available filters should be selected from the Add filter options presented in your Analytics interface.

As explained in Chapter 9, Lightweight Tracking does not provide the same persistent Visitor fields as Advanced Tracking.

15.41 Example — Analyze Mobile Outbound Traffic

For an Advanced Tracking Website, you might ask:

Which external destinations are Mobile Visitors clicking?

Use:

Device → Is → Mobile

Then review:

Outbound clicks

The Domain list can now be interpreted within that filtered reporting context.

15.42 Example — Analyze a Geographic Market

Suppose you want to know which external resources are attracting visitors from a particular market.

Set:

Country Code → Is → applicable country

Then review:

  1. External Domains
  2. Click counts
  3. Domain percentages

This can be useful when comparing partner or booking behavior by region.

15.43 Filters and the Domain List

The main outbound Domain report applies:

Website + Date Range + Applicable Active Filters

before grouping the resulting click records by external host.

Therefore, if a filter is active, interpret the Domain counts as belonging to the filtered Analytics segment rather than unrestricted Website activity.

15.44 Important Note About Path Drill-Down

The Outbound clicks paths drill-down is built around:

  1. Selected Website
  2. Selected external Host
  3. Selected Date Range

The source provided for this manual does not apply the same general Analytics filter conditions to the Path grouping query itself.

Therefore, when you have active audience Filters, do not automatically assume the Path drill-down is segmented identically to the main filtered Domain list.

For precise filtered analysis, interpret this distinction carefully.

15.45 Outbound Click Chart and Filters

The click chart also uses the Website's applicable Analytics Filters when calculating outbound clicks across time.

For Advanced Tracking, the chart connects outbound clicks with Visitor information before applying its filter conditions.

For Lightweight Tracking, the chart uses the Lightweight filter context.

This makes the chart useful for comparing a particular audience segment across the selected reporting period.

15.46 What the Outbound Click Report Does Not Show

The dedicated source for this reporting page establishes:

  1. Click timeline
  2. External Domains
  3. Click totals
  4. Domain percentages
  5. Path drill-down
  6. Path totals
  7. Path percentages

It does not establish a dedicated list on this screen showing every individual outbound-click event with a visitor-by-visitor timestamp.

Therefore, treat this module primarily as an aggregated outbound-destination report.

For Advanced Visitor-level context, other Analytics areas may provide the related Visitor and Session information.

15.47 No Outbound Click Data

If no Outbound Clicks exist for the current reporting conditions, the report displays its no-data state.

This can occur because:

  1. No one clicked an external link
  2. Outbound tracking was disabled
  3. The Date Range is too narrow
  4. Active Filters exclude the matching activity
  5. The Website has no applicable outbound links
  6. Tracking was not functioning when the clicks occurred

15.48 Troubleshooting — Outbound Clicks Is Empty

If you expect data but see none:

1. Confirm the Website

Verify the correct Website is selected.

2. Check the Date Range

Choose a range containing the expected activity.

3. Check Active Filters

Remove overly restrictive filters.

4. Check the Website Setting

Open:

Websites → Edit → Track outbound clicks

and confirm it is enabled.

5. Check Analytics Tracking

Confirm the Website's Tracking Code is operating.

6. Generate a Test Click

Visit the Website and click an actual external link.

Then return to Outbound Clicks and review the appropriate reporting period.

15.49 Troubleshooting — New Clicks Are Not Appearing

If older data exists but new external clicks are not being recorded:

  1. Confirm Tracking is enabled.
  2. Confirm Track outbound clicks is enabled.
  3. Confirm the current Tracking Code is installed.
  4. Confirm the link actually leads outside the tracked Website.
  5. Check browser blocking/privacy conditions.
  6. Test another external link.

Because the outbound tracking component is conditionally loaded according to the Website setting, disabling the feature prevents that component from being included.

15.50 Troubleshooting — Domain Appears but Expected Path Does Not

If the Domain appears in the main report:

  1. Click the Domain.
  2. Open Outbound clicks paths.
  3. Review all displayed Paths.
  4. Confirm the destination URL on your Website.
  5. Confirm whether the external link uses a different Path than expected.

The drill-down groups the stored outbound activity by Path for the selected external Host.

15.51 Troubleshooting — Click Count Is Higher Than Expected

Remember that Outbound Clicks measures:

Recorded click activity

not necessarily:

Unique Visitors

A Visitor may click an external destination multiple times.

Therefore:

50 outbound clicks

does not automatically mean:

50 unique people

The Outbound Clicks Domain report counts outbound-click records.

15.52 Troubleshooting — Outbound Click Count Does Not Match Partner Reporting

This can be normal.

AIUNIFY Analytics measures the click leaving your Website.

A partner platform may measure something different, such as:

  1. Landing-page load
  2. Accepted session
  3. Registration
  4. Completed application
  5. Purchase
  6. Commissionable conversion

Different systems can therefore legitimately report different totals because they are measuring different stages.

15.53 Outbound Click Analysis for Sales Funnels

Suppose a sales funnel operates as:

Landing Page

Learn More

External Scheduling Platform

Sales Appointment

AIUNIFY Outbound Clicks measures the transition:

Website → Scheduling Platform

You can then compare:

Website Traffic → Outbound Booking Clicks → Actual Appointments

using the appropriate downstream systems.

15.54 Outbound Click Analysis for Partnerships

Suppose your Website contains links to four partner organizations.

You can use Outbound Clicks to determine:

  1. Which Partner Domain receives the most clicks
  2. Each Partner's share of total outbound engagement
  3. Which specific Partner Path is most popular
  4. How click volume changes over time

This can support partner-performance discussions when combined with downstream conversion information.

15.55 Outbound Click Analysis for External CTAs

A Website may use external CTAs such as:

  1. Apply Now
  2. Schedule Appointment
  3. Make Payment
  4. Download App
  5. Visit Store
  6. View Product
  7. Get Financing

Outbound Clicks can measure whether visitors are actually selecting those links.

This can help distinguish:

CTA is visible

from:

CTA is generating external engagement

15.56 Outbound Click Analysis for Website Optimization

If one external CTA receives very few clicks:

  1. Review its Page placement.
  2. Review surrounding content.
  3. Review the CTA wording.
  4. Review Mobile presentation.
  5. Review Heatmaps when available.
  6. Review Visitor Sessions when using Advanced Tracking.
  7. Compare against higher-performing outbound destinations.

Outbound Clicks tells you where visitors choose to leave; other Analytics modules can help explain why.

15.57 Outbound Clicks + Pageviews

Combine these reports to understand:

Page viewed → external destination selected

For example:

Pricing Page receives 1,000 Pageviews

and:

External Checkout receives 150 Outbound Clicks

These measurements describe different stages of the Website journey.

Do not treat the 150 clicks as confirmed purchases unless another conversion mechanism establishes that outcome.

15.58 Outbound Clicks + Goals

Use:

Outbound Clicks

to measure:

External-link engagement

Use:

Goals

to measure:

Defined conversion outcomes

Together they can create a more meaningful funnel.

Example:

Pricing Page

External Application Click

Custom Goal: Application Start

or another appropriate conversion process.

15.59 Outbound Clicks + Visitor Journeys

With Advanced Tracking, outbound-click records can carry Visitor, Session, and Event relationships.

This means outbound behavior can be understood within a larger Advanced Visitor context.

For example:

Visitor

→ Home

→ Services

→ Pricing

→ External Booking Link

That journey can provide more context than the aggregated Domain count alone.

15.60 Outbound Clicks + Heatmaps

Heatmaps and Outbound Clicks answer different questions.

Heatmap

Helps show where visitors click or scroll on supported tracked pages.

Outbound Clicks

Measures clicks specifically leading away from the Website.

Together they can help determine whether an external CTA:

  1. Attracts visual interaction
  2. Actually sends visitors to the intended external destination

15.61 Outbound Clicks + Session Replays

For Advanced Tracking, Replays can provide visual context for supported Visitor Sessions.

If you are investigating why an external CTA performs strongly or poorly:

  1. Review Outbound Click volume.
  2. Identify relevant Visitor behavior.
  3. Review Session Events.
  4. Use Replay when available.

This can help connect aggregate click performance with actual Website behavior.

15.62 Recommended Daily Monitoring Workflow

For Websites where external traffic is important:

  1. Select the correct Website.
  2. Open Outbound clicks.
  3. Select Today or the desired period.
  4. Review the click chart.
  5. Review top Domains.
  6. Compare click counts.
  7. Open important Domains.
  8. Review Paths.
  9. Investigate unexpected destinations.
  10. Compare outbound activity with Goals when appropriate.

15.63 Recommended Campaign Workflow

For a campaign sending visitors to an external destination:

  1. Set the campaign Date Range.
  2. Apply relevant Analytics Filters.
  3. Open Outbound clicks.
  4. Review the clicks chart.
  5. Identify the external Domain.
  6. Review its total clicks.
  7. Review its percentage.
  8. Open the Domain.
  9. Review the relevant Path.
  10. Compare the result with downstream conversions.

This creates:

Campaign Traffic → Website Engagement → Outbound Click → External Outcome

15.64 Recommended Partner Performance Workflow

For a Website containing multiple partners:

  1. Select the reporting period.
  2. Open Outbound clicks.
  3. List the top external Domains.
  4. Compare click totals.
  5. Compare percentage share.
  6. Open each Partner Domain.
  7. Review specific Paths.
  8. Compare with partner-provided downstream results.
  9. Identify high-performing placements or destinations.

15.65 Recommended External Booking Workflow

For a business using an external scheduling system:

  1. Enable Track outbound clicks.
  2. Ensure the booking link is external.
  3. Generate a test click.
  4. Verify the booking Domain appears.
  5. Open its Path drill-down.
  6. Verify the correct booking Path.
  7. Monitor clicks over time.
  8. Compare outbound clicks with actual booked appointments.

This helps you identify conversion drop-off between:

Clicked Booking Link

and:

Completed Booking

15.66 Outbound Click Reporting Checklist

Before interpreting Outbound Clicks, confirm:

  1. Correct Website selected
  2. Track outbound clicks enabled
  3. Tracking Code operating
  4. Correct Date Range selected
  5. Active Filters reviewed
  6. Click chart reviewed
  7. External Domains reviewed
  8. Click totals reviewed
  9. Domain percentages understood
  10. Important Domains opened
  11. Path drill-down reviewed
  12. Path percentages understood
  13. Clicks not confused with unique Visitors
  14. Clicks not confused with completed conversions
  15. Goals used where a true business outcome must be measured
  16. Downstream systems compared where applicable

15.67 Understanding the Complete Outbound Click Workflow

The AIUNIFY Analytics Outbound Click process can be summarized as:

Enable Track outbound clicks

Visitor accesses Website

Visitor clicks an external link

AIUNIFY records the outbound destination

Outbound Click stored

Domain aggregated

Click total + percentage displayed

Select Domain

Review external Paths

Compare with Goals or downstream conversions

15.68 What You Should Know Before Moving On

You should now understand that Outbound clicks measures visitor activity leading away from the tracked Website.

The Website-level setting:

Track outbound clicks

controls whether this behavior is collected, and the feature works with both Advanced and Lightweight Tracking.

The main report groups recorded outbound clicks by external Domain, displays the number of Clicks, calculates each Domain's percentage of total outbound activity, and ranks the Domains by click volume.

Selecting a Domain opens Outbound clicks paths, where the external destinations are further grouped by Path with click totals and percentage distribution.

Most importantly:

Outbound Click ≠ Completed Conversion

Outbound Clicks tells you where visitors leave your Website. Goals and downstream systems help determine whether that external journey produced the desired business result.
